Steven W. Friedrichsen, B.S., D.D.S., F.I.C.D.

Dr. Friedrichsen assumed the deanship of our school on August 1, 2005.  His previous position was at Idaho State University, where he was Chairman of the Department of Dental Sciences and Director of the Idaho Dental Education Program, which is affiliated with Creighton University.  He was also an Associate Professor of Dentistry at Idaho State University and was the Director of the Idaho Advanced General Dentistry Residency AEGD program.

Dr. Friedrichsen received his bachelor's degree from Seattle University and his DDS from Northwestern University Dental School.  He completed a general practice residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics.

Dr. Friedrichsen is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and was a consultant and site visitor for the Commission of Dental Accreditation for General Practice Residency and Advanced Education in General Dentistry.  He is also a Fellow in the International College of Dentists.  He has authored publications on rural dentistry and restorative dentistry, and has been honored by Idaho jState University for outstanding public service.

Frank J. Ayers, B.S., D.D.S., F.A.C.D.

Dr. Ayers was raised in New York City and received his B.S. degree in 1965 from the College of Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He graduated from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1969 and served as a dental officer in the U. S. Navy from 1969 to 1971 aboard the USS Piedmont. This was followed by two years of service at the Children’s Dental Clinic at Douglas County Hospital in Omaha before joining the faculty at Creighton University School of Dentistry. Dr. Ayers is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics and is also the Associate Dean for Student Affairs / Director of Admissions.

James H. Howard, D.D.S., M.S.

A 1973 dental graduate of the University of Maryland, Dr. Howard received his M.S. degree from The University of Michigan in Restorative Dentistry (Operative) in 1977. He joined the faculty of the School of Dentistry as an Associate Professor in 1995 after a career in the U. S. Air Force from which he retired as a Colonel. He is currently the Associate Dean for Clinical Services/Director of Clinics, an administrative position he has held since 1999.

William P. Kelsey, III, D.D.S., F.A.C.D.

Dr. Kelsey was raised in Newell, Iowa and attended Creighton University for his pre-dental and dental training. He received his D.D.S. degree in 1976 and joined the faculty that same year. In addition to teaching, he has extensive experience in lecturing and research. He has published nearly 50 articles in refereed journals and has contributed to two chapters in dental textbooks. He has served as the Department Chair of Operative Dentistry and as the Assistant Dean for Clinical Services/Director of Clinics. He is currently the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, a position he has held since 1999. Dr. Kelsey also maintains a private practice in Omaha.

Mark A. Latta, A.B., D.M.D., M.S.

Dr. Latta is a 1978 graduate of Lafayette College (Easton, PA) with a degree in chemistry. He attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and received his D.M.D. degree in 1983. Following a hospital-based General Practice Residency at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, he maintained a practice in York and taught part-time in the residency. In 1988, he joined the clinical research staff at the Trubyte Division of Dentsply International and, during his seven years at Dentsply, held positions of increasing responsibility. He was the director of Research and Development when he left Dentsply to join the faculty of the School of Dentistry at Creighton University in 1995. He also earned an M.S. degree in Oral Biology from the University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in 1995. Dr. Latta’s research interests are in restorative dental materials and techniques and he has published extensively and lectured internationally. He currently an Associate Professor of General Dentistry and is the Associate Dean for Research at the School of Dentistry.
