Instructions for using Quick Recovery through a web browser

For users of Windows XP, and potentially for users of Windows 98 and Millenium who have upgraded to Internet Explorer 6, the online version of Quick Recovery has not been accessible. This is due to a problem with the Microsoft version of the Java Virtual Machine which the Quick Recovery web page requires.

This page will provide instructions on downloading the Sun version of Java in order to properly accomodate Quick Recovery.

Note: After following the directions on this page you will no longer need to access Quick Recovery via the Jwalk application. The java version of Quick Recovery will look just like what you are used to, but it will operate through the web browser, rather than as a stand-alone application.

Step 1:

Go to the following website: http://qr.creighton.edu
If the page displays normally, and you are able to log in to Quick Recovery, then you already have a working Java Virtual Machine and do not need to follow the rest of these instructions. If the page looks like the image below, move on to Step 2.

Step 2:

If the Quick Recovery page did not load correctly you will need to download and install Sun's Java Virtual Machine. Right click here and left click Save Target As. We suggest saving the file to your Desktop in order to make it easy to find.

The file may take some time to download on slower connections.

Step 3:

Once the download is completed, double click the file to open it. Be sure to close all open browser windows. Click Yes to the license agreement. Click Next to continue with a default Destination Folder. Make sure the box is checked to install the Plug-in for Microsoft Internet Explorer as shown below (Netscape 6 users may check the Netscape box, but the University only supports Internet Explorer). The installation will now continue and will exit when completed.

Step 4:

You may now navigate to the Online Quick Recovery by going to the Student Section of http://cudental.creighton.edu and following the Online Quick Recovery link, or by simply navigating to http://qr.creighton.edu.

Step 5:

The first time Quick Recovery loads through the browser you will see a window that looks like this:

Click the Grant Always button and the page will load and you will not be prompted for it again. At this point the application should look just like what you are familiar with. Proceed to log in and use the system. You may now delete the file that you downloaded in step 2.

If you require any assistance with any of these steps you can stop by the IT office on the Adult Clinic floor and ask Matt Slunecka or Mike Donner for help.
